The Manual of Infection Control in Orthopedic Surgery Operation Theater Protocols and Patient Optimization depicts the measures that can be effective in reducing infection after orthopedic procedures. Surgical site infections, SSIs are the complications in orthopedic surgery and have a huge impact in terms of healthcare burden and patient morbidity. The two most important factors that can be optimized for prevention of SSI are operation theater protocols and surgical optimization. Intraoperative factors like incise drapes, skin knives, suction tips and irrigation solutions are discussed. Patient and operative site preparation focusses on issues like hair removal, scrubbing protocols and draping materials. Detailed protocol of antibiotics in perioperative period is described. The conduct of operation theater personnel is highlighted, and the guidelines related to recovery rooms are also provided. There are certain aspects like privately owned nursing homes and small collaborative hospital, which present unique circumstances for developing an infection control guideline.
